HOW TO DANCE Basic Steps For Beginners (Swing/Jitterbug)
the video is fantastic! thank you so very much!
I wanna ask this girl out but I wanna take her on a dance but like… I dunno how to. But you are a fine teacher
This was all concentrated on her arm. What about the man’s arm. Often times men straight arm a partner and makes them off balance.
Would help me if you explain "Triple", "Rock" etc. Thanks
Triple = 3 steps Rock Step = Step, replace
My Dad was a professional dancer and therefore I learned the foxtrot also. If you learned with the slow slow first, it was easier to go into turns…just a matter of how you learned and later taught others. I give anyone that asks me the choice but I explain my reasoning for my choice and let them try both…8 out of 10 find it easier for the slow slow step first even going into the turns…just a difference in teaching style
I can see how going from a dead stop to moving could be easier with the slows first. However… beyond that brief moment, starting with the quicks is just how the dance actually works. There’s nothing wrong with starting with the slows for sure. It’s basically just skipping the beginning and doing half a basic. It’s a 6 count dance to a 4 count song anyway lol
Why do you teach the 2-step with the quick quick steps first? We always taught the slow slow first so that the dancers could get on the same step easier as they entered the dance floor! I taught at the original Gilley’s in the late 70s-early 80s…Urban Cowboy era.
Two Step used to be counted with the slows first as it started as Foxtrot. However, Two Step has been counted with the quicks first for quite some time. The reason is that most things (including turns) generally begin on the quicks and finish on the slows. If we still counted with the slows first, most turns etc couldn’t happen within a single basic. You would still be in the middle of a move when the next count would begin. That just wouldn’t make sense.
@@countrydancex My father was a professional dancer (USO with Bob Hope and Bing Crosby)…I learned the foxtrot first. The difference between teaching studio style dancing and teaching honky-tonk style dancing…and it does make perfect sense…and I’ve been dancing for 60+ years with no complaints
You asked why we teach two step qqss, and I was happy to answer. If you’re having fun dancing it ssqq, then you’re doing it right for you
Watching all your videos my settings Playback Speed control is getting a workout.
It’s even more fun when watched slowed down. We sound super drunk.
Works here just fine lol
Y'all are so graceful and these instructions are nice and clear.
Thank you so much for being here and for your kind words!
Excellent, Thank you
Glad you liked it!
Thank you so much. The secret of double turns in country 2 step.
You're welcome!
wow this is very inspirational and creative teaching! Thanks !
Glad you liked it!
🔥
Dips are cool and fun
This looks nothing like the cha cha I have done at different country dance halls. Is there a “country cha cha” as well as a “cowboy” cha cha? The other version I learned has the couple standing side by side.
Those are what we call “pattern partner” dances. They are like line dances while touching someone 😂 Those are fun too. This is the actual lead and follow partner dance.
12:34 what is the regular two-step dance
I love the country classic country music because you can dance to it. My opinion you can't dance to this modern pop country. Great bands back in the 70-90's, Lonestar, Diamond Rio, Mavericks, Ricochet Little Texas. What do we have now? I miss singers like Vince Gil, the late Toby Keith, Dwight Youkam, Shania Twain, Brook and Dunn, Tonya Tucker, George Strait, Tracy Lawerence, Hal Ketchem, Clint Black, Garth Brooks, Reba, Martina McBride, Alan Jackson, Sara Evans, Terri Clark.....Just to name a few. You could dance to their music. you could do East Coast swing to Dwight, 2 step to Clint Black, Cha Cha to George Strait, West Coast Swing to Lonestar and Wynonna. Try to do an East coast swing to today's music. What dance can you do to today's music? I'm open for suggestions!!!
It's 2024 and it's all Country Music...it's a real big Country!
🧠
I'm so glad your dance videos are still online! I'm 65 and only recently started dancing, and your videos have really helped me. Thanks!
You're so welcome! Thanks for being here!
Love it
❤️❤️❤️
You guys break down this instruction so well. This makes it easier to digest.
We love to hear that! Thanks for being here
Awesome video.cant wait to start practicing
Get it!
Your videos are excellent and I’m still enjoying them!!!
Thanks for being here. We're glad you are enjoying them. You'll start to see a lot more!
@@countrydancex yes!!! Here in Austin Texas some folks are hesitant to branch out but I’m determined to lead them until they are comfortable with more variations. These videos help a lot
Nice to see you two again.
Happy that things have cleared up enough to come back. More to come :-)
I've never country swinged (swung? 😆) before but this was fun to watch. I need to find a place with country swing!
Swang? 🤪 It’s a fun dance
I've been a lindy hopper and east coast swing dancer for almost 30 years. Now I want to try my hand at West Coast Swing. I'm glad you put these videos together so I can master the basics
Thank you! We're going two steppin tonight for the first time in Wimberley, TX
Thank you for sharing this information, it is very helpful.
This makes it make SO much more sense. Thank you 🙏👏👏
Is the follow's tempo supposed to start quick and then slow down, as she's doing here?
This is the best break down I've come across and deeply appreciate it guys.
Haha y’all are too cute 🥰
I know of Robert Royston through the west coast swing world. I found this interview very interesting; thank you for sharing. I am from Southern California, and I have also noticed that country dancing has become more popular out here. It would be interesting to experience the country dancing bar scene in Texas. Are there any major differences between the country dancing bar scene in Austin, Dallas, and Houston? Or are they all pretty similar?
When dancing with a follower that may not know what you are planing, how do you leaders signal the change from 6 count to 8 count patterns?
How about San Francisco Bay Area
San Francisco
Todays country is pop music with twang
Trying to learn this for Lindy Hop (according my teacher it originated as a Lindy move) but their description of the middle two counts of the followers footwork was so confusing. Just watching her footwork is so much more helpful, thanks. Hopefully I can make it pass in Lindy. 😅
Thx for the wonderful breakdown of WCS.
I have to say I do love yalls content. I can play music but never learned to dance and have a fairly internal grasp on counts and beats and rythm. A lot of videos I have watched don't really break down the counts the way you do. As a musician I loved the part in the video where you break everything down into 2/4 or 1/2 time. I wont forget I made a bunch of people at country bar raise their eyebrows when i danced salsa to some country music.
I love seeing these videos it's been teaching me alot.
Any ideas when dancing in a dress with a train? For prom. Mom bought it for me so cant alter train. Help
Can you bustle the train?
Great stuff! Come to So Cal!
May we have a close up on the hand positions, especially during the spins?
I love forro
That's awesome
I love this way of explaining. You make it so simple and understandable. Thanks 😊
Dude: you talk way too fast. Slow it down so EVERYONE can understand.
You are awesome. I love how you explain the technique and rhythm of the dances. You have a great knowledge of the lead and follow in your teaching. I have learned a lot from your videos. Thanks for sharing.
My wife and I learned to two-step through your videos about two years ago and have been regulars at Cowboys Red River in Dallas ever since. Thank you! As to how to explain what type of dance goes with what song rhythm…that’s really tough to encapsulate. Part of it is rooted in pure experience of dancing (also in playing music myself) and your ear and sense of rhythm learning to “tune in” to the rhythm of a song. I always mentally “overlay” the QQSS pattern to a song when it starts to make sure it “fits”. If not, I then switch mentally to the three-step polka, and if that doesn’t fit, then I try to determine if it’s a swing song (mostly those are faster beat songs). Over time, you just sorta “know it when you hear it”.
